Backstory:

The younger sister of Chris Redfield, this fiery young woman is a born survivor just like her brother. As children, Chris and Claire witnessed their parents lose their lives in a horrendous car accident, forcing Chris to raise his little sister by himself. In their late teens, Chris joined the US Air Force while Claire went to college, where she grew a fascination for motorcycles. When Chris returned from his brief military service, he taught Claire everything he learned, hoping that she could one day defend herself if she's ever threatened. Chris left his sister again when he found a new career in Raccoon City as a member of STARS. Little did Claire know just how valuable her brother's training would become years later.

In 1998, Raccoon City was caught in a deadly biohazardous outbreak where hundreds of citizens were reported dead or missing. Fearing for his brother's life, Claire abandoned college and raced into the catastrophe in search of Chris. What she found instead was an army of walking corpses all reanimated by the "G-Virus." Terrified and confused, Claire was nearly killed by the zombies until she was rescued by a rookie cop named Leon Kennedy. Claire and Leon fought their way to the Raccoon City Police Department, which was also overrun by zombies. Within the abandoned building, Claire discovered her brother's diary, which stated that he'd already left Raccoon City to investigate Umbrella's HQ in Europe. Claire and Leon then rescued a lonely little girl named Sherry Birkin, whose father was the Umbrella scientist responsible for the outbreak. The three survivors miraculously escaped Raccoon City, and agreed to part ways in pursuit of each's own agenda.

Three months later, Claire continued searching for her brother, while conducting her own investigation on Umbrella's crimes. Her journey took her to an Umbrella-held lab in Paris, France, but ended up captured by Umbrella security forces before she found anything useful. Claire was imprisoned at Rockfort Island, a secret island prison run by the prestigious Ashford Family. Claire's lucky break came when Rockfort Island was hit by a surprise air raid. However, the attack also triggered a T-Virus outbreak, causing another Raccoon City-like catastrophe. Claire once again was forced to deal with zombies and BOWs alone, until she meets a fellow inmate named Steve Burnside. As they fought their way through the prison, Claire and Steve were hunted down mercilessly by the insane twins Alfred and Alexia Ashford. The two prisoners escape Rockfort Island, but only to be knocked off course to Umbrella's Antarctic laboratory. Steve managed to kill Alfred, but lost his own life in the process. Meanwhile, Chris received a message from Leon, telling her of his sister's last known location. Reunited at last, the two Redfields encountered Alexia, who reveals that her ultimate plan was to achieve "godhood" by mutating herself with her family's T-Veronica virus. In the final battle, Chris and Claire used prototype weapons to destroy Alexia for good, putting an end to the Ashford Family.

Through her experiences, Claire Redfield grew a passion to follow in her brother's footsteps and prevent any more nightmares like Raccoon City or Rockfort. To this day, she continues her crusade against bioterrorism as a proud member of the human rights group TerraSave.
